Red Painted Lips
Hand-Cranked Ice Cream Freezer
Invented in 1846 by Nancy Johnson
Raspberries stain fingers.
I squeeze and with intention
move the juice from hands
to your hair. I anoint red
forehead crown, settle cream
in the pit and swirl cut violet
fruit as delicacy revolves
with twist of lips and indelible
taste that unseen hands release
while we climb the other’s
back, chest and shoulder --
one hand over the other
repeating caress while skin
bubbles rich as cream leaks
from the corners of our damp
lips forest bottom groomed
in upheaval that the fruit
drives into mountain when
god hand and ocean wave lit
chalk wither of extraordinary day.
